History

Global History

Global History provides a snapshot of the world circa 1750. The course continues chronologically up to the present. Several concepts are woven throughout the course, including industrialization, nationalism, imperialism, conflict, technology, and the world's interconnectedness. The goal is to help the students understand how human actions and natural resources shaped historical events. This knowledge is an excellent foundation for understanding the world today.

 NOTE: This course terminates in a Regents exam.

US History

U.S. History traces the development of the nation's political, social, and economic factors that led to our nation's challenges and growth from colonization to the present day. In addition to the study of specific eras and topics, the course will emphasize a series of key themes throughout the year, including: the development of American diversity, identity and culture; economic trends and transformations; citizenship and the development of political institutions and customs; social reform movements; and the evolution of American foreign policy and role of the United States in an increasingly interdependent world.  

NOTE: This course terminates in a Regents exam.

Participation in Government

This course examines the political institutions of the United States Government and how these institutions impact the lives of Americans. The overarching goal of this course  is to help the students understand how our government operates, and what actions we can take as citizens to shape our country’s future. Understanding our government, our politics, and our civic responsibilities are imperative to becoming better global citizens.

Economics

This course examines the financial institutions of the United States Government and how said institutions impact the lives of Americans each day. The goal is to help our students to understand the ways in which our economy operates, and what actions we can take as citizens to shape our economic future.

History Through Film

This captivating course seamlessly blends history and cinema, offering students a unique perspective on significant events and cultural shifts throughout history. Students will explore pivotal moments in history through carefully curated films that capture the essence of various eras. Engaging in thoughtful discussions, students will critically assess the accuracy and artistic liberties taken by filmmakers, enhancing their ability to interpret historical narratives.
